SME Dispute Resolution Centre

Background
Funded by the SME Development Fund, the JMHO is running the project entitled “SME Dispute Resolution Centre – Enhancing SMEs’ Competitiveness by Resolving Commercial Disputes Effectively” for a period of 2 years starting from 1 June 2017. The project aims at providing resources to SMEs with regard to effective commercial dispute resolution and to build a mediation culture in SMEs in the long run so as to trim down the operating costs and litigation risks for SMEs.

Services
- Free Helpline and Consultation Services
A telephone hotline is set up to answer enquiries in relation to dispute resolution and to provide general information on mediation services to SMEs. Free Consultation will be provided by Project Consultant to offer SMEs with guidance, resources and information with regard to effective commercial dispute resolution.
- Provision of Useful Resources
Useful resources in respect of mediation are provided online to SMEs so as to enhance their knowledge in mediation and how mediation helps resolve their business disputes.
Useful Resources for SMEs (in Chinese only)
- Company Visits
Company Visits will be conducted by Project Consultant to review common disputes encountered by the selected SMEs and their existing dispute resolution system, including the company policies, dispute resolution clauses in the frequently used contract(s), the resources available for staff in engaging mediation services. Advice on a better dispute resolution procedure will be provided to the SMEs in order to devise a better and systemic approach in dealing with conflicts.

- Mediation Seminars and Workshops
Mediation-related seminars and workshops will be conducted to equip SMEs with essential mediation knowledge and enhance SMEs’ skills and capacity to use negotiation and mediation techniques when dealing with commercial disputes.
- Mediation Support Services
Serving as an external support platform for SMEs to look for mediation services in a convenient way, the following free services are provided to SMEs so as to reduce their cost of going to the court:-
- ascertaining agreement to mediate from all parties concerned; and
- introducing suitable mediation services and/ or mediation service providers to the parties when consent to mediate is obtained.
